Muhsin Khan

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Pickthall In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Muhsin Khan The Reality (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)!

Pickthall The Reality!

Muhsin Khan What is the Reality?

Pickthall What is the Reality?

Muhsin Khan And what will make you know what the Reality is?

Pickthall Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is!

Muhsin Khan Thamud and 'Ad people denied the Qari'ah [the striking Hour (of Judgement)]!

Pickthall (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come.

Muhsin Khan As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry!

Pickthall As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning.

Muhsin Khan And as for 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious violent wind;

Pickthall And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind,

Muhsin Khan Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms!

Pickthall Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees.

Muhsin Khan Do you see any remnants of them?

Pickthall Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them?

Muhsin Khan And Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and those before him, and the cities overthrown [the towns of the people of [Lout (Lot)] committed sin,

Pickthall And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,

Muhsin Khan And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment.

Pickthall And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip.

Muhsin Khan Verily! When the water rose beyond its limits [Nuh's (Noah) Flood], We carried you (mankind) in the floating [ship that was constructed by Nuh (Noah)].

Pickthall Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship

Muhsin Khan That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it.

Pickthall That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember.

Muhsin Khan Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one),

Pickthall And when the trumpet shall sound one blast

Muhsin Khan And the earth and the mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing,

Pickthall And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash,

Muhsin Khan Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall,

Pickthall Then, on that day will the Event befall.

Muhsin Khan And the heaven will split asunder, for that Day it (the heaven will be frail (weak), and torn up,

Pickthall And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.

Muhsin Khan And the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them.

Pickthall And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.

Muhsin Khan That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden.

Pickthall On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden.

Muhsin Khan Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Take, read my Record!

Pickthall Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!

Muhsin Khan "Surely, I did believe that I shall meet my Account!"

Pickthall Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.

Muhsin Khan So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing.

Pickthall Then he will be in blissful state

Muhsin Khan In a lofty Paradise,

Pickthall In a high garden

Muhsin Khan The fruits in bunches whereof will be low and near at hand.

Pickthall Whereof the clusters are in easy reach.

Muhsin Khan Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past!

Pickthall (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.

Muhsin Khan But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record!

Pickthall But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book

Muhsin Khan "And that I had never known, how my Account is?

Pickthall And knew not what my reckoning!

Muhsin Khan "I wish, would that it had been my end (death)!

Pickthall Oh, would that it had been death!

Muhsin Khan "My wealth has not availed me,

Pickthall My wealth hath not availed me,

Muhsin Khan "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!"

Pickthall My power hath gone from me.

Muhsin Khan (It will be said): "Seize him and fetter him,

Pickthall (It will be said): Take him and fetter him

Muhsin Khan Then throw him in the blazing Fire.

Pickthall And then expose him to hell-fire

Muhsin Khan "Then fasten him with a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits!"

Pickthall And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits.

Muhsin Khan Verily, He used not to believe in Allah, the Most Great,

Pickthall Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous,

Muhsin Khan And urged not on the feeding of Al-Miskin (the poor),

Pickthall And urged not on the feeding of the wretched.

Muhsin Khan So no friend has he here this Day,

Pickthall Therefor hath he no lover here this day,

Muhsin Khan Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds,

Pickthall Nor any food save filth

Muhsin Khan None will eat except the Khati'un (sinners, disbelievers, polytheists, etc.).

Pickthall Which none but sinners eat.

Muhsin Khan So I swear by whatsoever you see,

Pickthall But nay! I swear by all that ye see

Muhsin Khan And by whatsoever you see not,

Pickthall And all that ye see not

Muhsin Khan That this is verily the word of an honoured Messenger [i.e. Jibrael (Gabriel) or Muhammad SAW which he has brought from Allah].

Pickthall That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger.

Muhsin Khan It is not the word of a poet, little is that you believe!

Pickthall It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe!

Muhsin Khan Nor is it the word of a soothsayer (or a foreteller), little is that you remember!

Pickthall Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember!

Muhsin Khan This is the Revelation sent down from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

Pickthall It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

Muhsin Khan And if he (Muhammad SAW) had forged a false saying concerning Us (Allah),

Pickthall And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us,

Muhsin Khan We surely should have seized him by his right hand (or with power and might),

Pickthall We assuredly had taken him by the right hand

Muhsin Khan And then certainly should have cut off his life artery (Aorta),

Pickthall And then severed his life-artery,

Muhsin Khan And none of you could withhold Us from (punishing) him.

Pickthall And not one of you could have held Us off from him.

Muhsin Khan And verily, this Quran is a Reminder for the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2).

Pickthall And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil).

Muhsin Khan And verily, We know that there are some among you that belie (this Quran). [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 68]

Pickthall And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it).

Muhsin Khan And indeed it (this Quran) will be an anguish for the disbelievers (on the Day of Resurrection).

Pickthall And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers.

Muhsin Khan And Verily, it (this Quran) is an absolute truth with certainty.

Pickthall And lo! it is absolute truth.

Muhsin Khan So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.

Pickthall So glorify the name of thy Tremendous Lord.
