Example reciter

Muhsin Khan

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Pickthall In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

Muhsin Khan By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows).

Pickthall By those who set the ranks in battle order

Muhsin Khan By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way.

Pickthall And those who drive away (the wicked) with reproof

Muhsin Khan By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind [Tafsir Ibn Kathir].

Pickthall And those who read (the Word) for a reminder,

Muhsin Khan Verily your Ilah (God) is indeed One (i.e. Allah);

Pickthall Lo! thy Lord is surely One;

Muhsin Khan Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah).

Pickthall Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all that is between them, and Lord of the sun's risings.

Muhsin Khan Verily! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty).

Pickthall Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets;

Muhsin Khan And to guard against every rebellious devil.

Pickthall With security from every froward devil.

Muhsin Khan They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side.

Pickthall They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side,

Muhsin Khan Outcast, and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment.

Pickthall Outcast, and theirs is a perpetual torment;

Muhsin Khan Except such as snatch away something by stealing and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness.

Pickthall Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame.

Muhsin Khan Then ask them (i.e. these polytheists, O Muhammad SAW): "Are they stronger as creation, or those (others like the heavens and the earth and the mountains, etc.) whom We have created?" Verily, We created them of a sticky clay.

Pickthall Then ask them (O Muhammad): Are they stronger as a creation, or those (others) whom we have created? Lo! We created them of plastic clay.

Muhsin Khan Nay, you (O Muhammad SAW) wondered (at their insolence) while they mock (at you and at the Quran).

Pickthall Nay, but thou dost marvel when they mock

Muhsin Khan And when they are reminded, they pay no attention.

Pickthall And heed not when they are reminded,

Muhsin Khan And when they see an Ayah (a sign, a proof, or an evidence) from Allah, they mock at it.

Pickthall And seek to scoff when they behold a portent.

Muhsin Khan And they say: "This is nothing but evident magic!

Pickthall And they say: Lo! this is mere magic;

Muhsin Khan "When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) verily be resurrected?

Pickthall When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised (again)?

Muhsin Khan "And also our fathers of old?"

Pickthall And our forefathers?

Muhsin Khan Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Yes, and you shall then be humiliated."

Pickthall Say (O Muhammad): Ye, in truth; and ye will be brought low.

Muhsin Khan It will be a single Zajrah [shout (i.e. the second blowing of the Trumpet)], and behold, they will be staring!

Pickthall There is but one Shout, and lo! they behold,

Muhsin Khan They will say: "Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense!"

Pickthall And say: Ah, woe for us! This is the Day of Judgment.

Muhsin Khan (It will be said): "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."

Pickthall This is the Day of Separation, which ye used to deny.

Muhsin Khan (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship.

Pickthall (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship

Muhsin Khan "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell);

Pickthall Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell;

Muhsin Khan "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned.

Pickthall And stop them, for they must be questioned.

Muhsin Khan "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?"

Pickthall What aileth you that ye help not one another?

Muhsin Khan Nay, but that Day they shall surrender,

Pickthall Nay, but this day they make full submission.

Muhsin Khan And they will turn to one another and question one another.

Pickthall And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.

Muhsin Khan They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]."

Pickthall They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth).

Muhsin Khan They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers.

Pickthall They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers.

Muhsin Khan "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers).

Pickthall We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk.

Muhsin Khan "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment).

Pickthall Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom).

Muhsin Khan "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray."

Pickthall Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray.

Muhsin Khan Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment.

Pickthall Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom.

Muhsin Khan Certainly, that is how We deal with Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the disobedient to Allah, etc.).

Pickthall Lo! thus deal We with the guilty.

Muhsin Khan Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it).

Pickthall For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful

Muhsin Khan And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet?

Pickthall And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet?

Muhsin Khan Nay! he (Muhammad SAW) has come with the truth (i.e. Allah's Religion - Islamic Monotheism and this Quran) and he confirms the Messengers (before him who brought Allah's religion - Islamic Monotheism).

Pickthall Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him).

Muhsin Khan Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment;

Pickthall Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom -

Muhsin Khan Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment;

Pickthall Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom -

Muhsin Khan Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism).

Pickthall Save single-minded slaves of Allah;

Muhsin Khan For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise).

Pickthall For them there is a known provision,

Muhsin Khan Fruits; and they shall be honoured,

Pickthall Fruits. And they will be honoured

Muhsin Khan In the Gardens of delight (Paradise),

Pickthall In the Gardens of delight,

Muhsin Khan Facing one another on thrones,

Pickthall On couches facing one another;

Muhsin Khan Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine;

Pickthall A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them,

Muhsin Khan White, delicious to the drinkers,

Pickthall White, delicious to the drinkers,

Muhsin Khan Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.

Pickthall Wherein there is no headache nor are they made mad thereby.

Muhsin Khan And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes.

Pickthall And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes,

Muhsin Khan (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved.

Pickthall (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich).

Muhsin Khan Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning.

Pickthall And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning.

Muhsin Khan A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world),

Pickthall A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade

Muhsin Khan Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death).

Pickthall Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)?

Muhsin Khan "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?"

Pickthall Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book?

Muhsin Khan (The man) said: "Will you look down?"

Pickthall He saith: Will ye look?

Muhsin Khan So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.

Pickthall Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell.

Muhsin Khan He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me.

Pickthall He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin,

Muhsin Khan "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)."

Pickthall And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom).

Muhsin Khan (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)?

Pickthall Are we then not to die

Muhsin Khan "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)."

Pickthall Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished?

Muhsin Khan Truly, this is the supreme success!

Pickthall Lo! this is the supreme triumph.

Muhsin Khan For the like of this let the workers work.

Pickthall For the like of this, then, let the workers work.

Muhsin Khan Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)?

Pickthall Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum?

Muhsin Khan Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.).

Pickthall Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers.

Muhsin Khan Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire,

Pickthall Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell.

Muhsin Khan The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils);

Pickthall Its crop is as it were the heads of devils

Muhsin Khan Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.

Pickthall And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith.

Muhsin Khan Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies).

Pickthall And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water

Muhsin Khan Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell.

Pickthall And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell.

Muhsin Khan Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path;

Pickthall They indeed found their fathers astray,

Muhsin Khan So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps!

Pickthall But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps.

Muhsin Khan And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them;

Pickthall And verily most of the men of old went astray before them,

Muhsin Khan And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers);

Pickthall And verily We sent among them warners.

Muhsin Khan Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not).

Pickthall Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned,

Muhsin Khan Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism).

Pickthall Save single-minded slaves of Allah.

Muhsin Khan And indeed Nuh (Noah) invoked Us, and We are the Best of those who answer (the request).

Pickthall And Noah verily prayed unto Us, and gracious was the Hearer of his prayer

Muhsin Khan And We rescued him and his family from the great distress (i.e. drowning),

Pickthall And We saved him and his household from the great distress,

Muhsin Khan And, his progeny, them We made the survivors (i.e. Shem, Ham and Japheth).

Pickthall And made his seed the survivors,

Muhsin Khan And left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations to come in later times:

Pickthall And left for him among the later folk (the salutation):

Muhsin Khan Salamun (peace) be upon Nuh (Noah) (from Us) among the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!"

Pickthall Peace be unto Noah among the peoples!

Muhsin Khan Verily, thus We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V.2:112).

Pickthall Lo! thus do We reward the good.

Muhsin Khan Verily, he [Nuh (Noah) ] was one of Our believing slaves.

Pickthall Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.

Muhsin Khan Then We drowned the other (disbelievers and polytheists, etc.).

Pickthall Then We did drown the others.

Muhsin Khan And, verily, among those who followed his [Nuh's (Noah)] way (Islamic Monotheism) was Ibrahim (Abraham).

Pickthall And lo! of his persuasion verily was Abraham

Muhsin Khan When he came to his Lord with a pure heart [attached to Allah Alone and none else, worshipping none but Allah Alone true Islamic Monotheism, pure from the filth of polytheism].

Pickthall When he came unto his Lord with a whole heart;

Muhsin Khan When he said to his father and to his people: "What is it that which you worship?

Pickthall When he said unto his father and his folk: What is it that ye worship?

Muhsin Khan "Is it a falsehood aliha (gods) other than Allah that you seek?

Pickthall Is it a falsehood - gods beside Allah - that ye desire?

Muhsin Khan "Then what do you think about the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists)?"

Pickthall What then is your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds?

Muhsin Khan Then he cast a glance at the stars (to deceive them),

Pickthall And he glanced a glance at the stars

Muhsin Khan And he said: "Verily, I am sick (with plague. He did this trick to remain in their temple of idols to destroy them and not to accompany them to the pagan's feast)."

Pickthall Then said: Lo! I feel sick!

Muhsin Khan So they turned away from him, and departed (for fear of the disease).

Pickthall And they turned their backs and went away from him.

Muhsin Khan Then he turned to their aliha (gods) and said: "Will you not eat (of the offering before you)?

Pickthall Then turned he to their gods and said: Will ye not eat?

Muhsin Khan "What is the matter with you that you speak not?"

Pickthall What aileth you that ye speak not?

Muhsin Khan Then he turned upon them, striking (them) with (his) right hand.

Pickthall Then he attacked them, striking with his right hand.

Muhsin Khan Then they (the worshippers of idols) came, towards him, hastening.

Pickthall And (his people) came toward him, hastening.

Muhsin Khan He said: "Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve?

Pickthall He said: Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve

Muhsin Khan "While Allah has created you and what you make!"

Pickthall When Allah hath created you and what ye make?

Muhsin Khan They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a furnace) and throw him into the blazing fire!"

Pickthall They said: Build for him a building and fling him in the red-hotfire.

Muhsin Khan So they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest.

Pickthall And they designed a snare for him, but We made them the undermost.

Muhsin Khan And he said (after his rescue from the fire): "Verily, I am going to my Lord. He will guide me!"

Pickthall And he said: Lo! I am going unto my Lord Who will guide me.

Muhsin Khan "My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous."

Pickthall My Lord! Vouchsafe me of the righteous.

Muhsin Khan So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy.

Pickthall So We gave him tidings of a gentle son.

Muhsin Khan And, when he (his son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: "O my son! I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offer you in sacrifice to Allah), so look what you think!" He said: "O my father! Do that which you are commanded, Insha' Allah (if Allah will), you shall find me of As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.)."

Pickthall And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast.

Muhsin Khan Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to the Will of Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for slaughtering);

Pickthall Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah), and he had flung him down upon his face,

Muhsin Khan And We called out to him: "O Abraham!

Pickthall We called unto him: O Abraham!

Muhsin Khan You have fulfilled the dream (vision)!" Verily! Thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V.2:112).

Pickthall Thou hast already fulfilled the vision. Lo! thus do We reward the good.

Muhsin Khan Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial

Pickthall Lo! that verily was a clear test.

Muhsin Khan And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. a ram); Pickthall Then We ransomed him with a tremendous victim. Muhsin Khan And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. a ram);

Pickthall Then We ransomed him with a tremendous victim.

Muhsin Khan And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times.

Pickthall And We left for him among the later folk (the salutation):

Muhsin Khan Salamun (peace) be upon Ibrahim (Abraham)!"

Pickthall Peace be unto Abraham!

Muhsin Khan Thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V.2:112).

Pickthall Thus do We reward the good.

Muhsin Khan Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves.

Pickthall Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves.

Muhsin Khan And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac) a Prophet from the righteous.

Pickthall And we gave him tidings of the birth of Isaac, a prophet of the righteous.

Muhsin Khan We blessed him and Ishaque (Isaac), and of their progeny are (some) that do right, and some that plainly wrong themselves.

Pickthall And We blessed him and Isaac. And of their seed are some who do good, and some who plainly wrong themselves.

Muhsin Khan And, indeed We gave Our Grace to Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron).

Pickthall And We verily gave grace unto Moses and Aaron,

Muhsin Khan And We saved them and their people from the great distress;

Pickthall And saved them and their people from the great distress,

Muhsin Khan And helped them, so that they became the victors;

Pickthall And helped them so that they became the victors.

Muhsin Khan And We gave them the clear Scripture;

Pickthall And We gave them the clear Scripture

Muhsin Khan And guided them to the Right Path;

Pickthall And showed them the right path.

Muhsin Khan And We left for them (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times;

Pickthall And We left for them among the later folk (the salutation):

Muhsin Khan Salamun (peace) be upon Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)!"

Pickthall Peace be unto Moses and Aaron!

Muhsin Khan Verily, thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V.2:112).

Pickthall Lo! thus do We reward the good.

Muhsin Khan Verily! They were two of Our believing slaves.

Pickthall Lo! they are two of Our believing slaves.

Muhsin Khan And verily, Iliyas (Elias) was one of the Messengers.

Pickthall And lo! Elias was of those sent (to warn),

Muhsin Khan When he said to his people: "Will you not fear Allah?

Pickthall When he said unto his folk: Will ye not ward off (evil)?

Muhsin Khan "Will you call upon Ba'l (a well- known idol of his nation whom they used to worship) and forsake the Best of creators,

Pickthall Will ye cry unto Baal and forsake the Best of creators,

Muhsin Khan "Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?"

Pickthall Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers?

Muhsin Khan But they denied him [Iliyas (Elias)], so they will certainly be brought forth (to the punishment),

Pickthall But they denied him, so they surely will be haled forth (to the doom)

Muhsin Khan Except the chosen slaves of Allah.

Pickthall Save single-minded slaves of Allah.

Muhsin Khan And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times;

Pickthall And we left for him among the later folk (the salutation):

Muhsin Khan Salamun (peace) be upon Ilyasin (Elias)!"

Pickthall Peace be unto Elias!

Muhsin Khan Verily, thus do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers, who perform good deeds totally for Allah's sake only - see V.2:112).

Pickthall Lo! thus do We reward the good.

Muhsin Khan Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves.

Pickthall Lo! he is one of our believing slaves.

Muhsin Khan And verily, Lout (Lot) was one of the Messengers.

Pickthall And lo! Lot verily was of those sent (to warn).

Muhsin Khan When We saved him and his family, all,

Pickthall When We saved him and his household, every one,

Muhsin Khan Except an old woman (his wife) who was among those who remained behind.

Pickthall Save an old woman among those who stayed behind;

Muhsin Khan Then We destroyed the rest [i.e. the towns of Sodom at the place of the Dead Sea (now) in Palestine]. [See the "Book of History" by Ibn Kathir].

Pickthall Then We destroyed the others.

Muhsin Khan Verily, you pass by them in the morning.

Pickthall And lo! ye verily pass by (the ruin of) them in the morning

Muhsin Khan And at night; will you not then reflect?

Pickthall And at night-time; have ye then no sense?

Muhsin Khan And, verily, Yunus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers.

Pickthall And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn)

Muhsin Khan When he ran to the laden ship,

Pickthall When he fled unto the laden ship,

Muhsin Khan He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers,

Pickthall And then drew lots and was of those rejected;

Muhsin Khan Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame.

Pickthall And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy;

Muhsin Khan Had he not been of them who glorify Allah,

Pickthall And had he not been one of those who glorify (Allah)

Muhsin Khan He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection.

Pickthall He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised;

Muhsin Khan But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick,

Pickthall Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick;

Muhsin Khan And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him.

Pickthall And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him;

Muhsin Khan And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more.

Pickthall And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more

Muhsin Khan And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while.

Pickthall And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while.

Muhsin Khan Now ask them (O Muhammad SAW): "Are there (only) daughters for your Lord and sons for them?"

Pickthall Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons?

Muhsin Khan Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses?

Pickthall Or created We the angels females while they were present?

Muhsin Khan Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say:

Pickthall Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say:

Muhsin Khan "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars!

Pickthall Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie.

Muhsin Khan Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons?

Pickthall (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons.

Muhsin Khan What is the matter with you? How do you decide?

Pickthall What aileth you? How judge ye?

Muhsin Khan Will you not then remember?

Pickthall Will ye not then reflect?

Muhsin Khan Or is there for you a plain authority?

Pickthall Or have ye a clear warrant?

Muhsin Khan Then bring your Book if you are truthful!

Pickthall Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful.

Muhsin Khan And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts).

Pickthall And they imagine kinship between him and the jinn, whereas the jinn know well that they will be brought before (Him).

Muhsin Khan Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him!

Pickthall Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him),

Muhsin Khan Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah).

Pickthall Save single-minded slaves of Allah.

Muhsin Khan So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols).

Pickthall Lo! verily, ye and that which ye worship,

Muhsin Khan Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers],

Pickthall Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him.

Muhsin Khan Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell!

Pickthall Save him who is to burn in hell.

Muhsin Khan There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position);

Pickthall There is not one of us but hath his known position.

Muhsin Khan Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers);

Pickthall Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks,

Muhsin Khan Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allah's Praises i.e. perform prayers).

Pickthall Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise

Muhsin Khan And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say;

Pickthall And indeed they used to say:

Muhsin Khan "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah).

Pickthall If we had but a reminder from the men of old

Muhsin Khan "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!"

Pickthall We would be single-minded slaves of Allah.

Muhsin Khan But (now that the Quran has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Quran and in Prophet Muhammad SAW , and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know!

Pickthall Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know.

Muhsin Khan And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers,

Pickthall And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn)

Muhsin Khan That they verily would be made triumphant.

Pickthall That they verily would be helped,

Muhsin Khan And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors.

Pickthall And that Our host, they verily would be the victors.

Muhsin Khan So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while,

Pickthall So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile,

Muhsin Khan And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)!

Pickthall And watch, for they will (soon) see.

Muhsin Khan Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment?

Pickthall Would they hasten on Our doom?

Muhsin Khan Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned!

Pickthall But when it cometh home to them, then it will be a hapless morn for those who have been warned.

Muhsin Khan So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while,

Pickthall Withdraw from them awhile

Muhsin Khan And watch and they shall see (the torment)!

Pickthall And watch, for they will (soon) see.

Muhsin Khan Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him!

Pickthall Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him)

Muhsin Khan And peace be on the Messengers!

Pickthall And peace be unto those sent (to warn).

Muhsin Khan And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

Pickthall And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!
